Medicare for All is important, but it’s not enough. And honestly, it will take too long for Nebraskans who need relief from crippling medical debt, astronomical prescription drug costs, rural healthcare systems woefully under-staffed and under-resourced, and physician burnout from massive patient loads, expansive insurance negotiations and requirements, and under-resourced systems that leave medical professionals physically, emotionally, mentally, and economically devastated.
We need to support the expansion of direct primary care – healthcare that cuts out the insurance middle man for your basic health care. We need to collaborate with communities to support building up rural health care networks that are both self-sustaining and fully accessible for years to come. And we need to build an universal health care system that’s better than Medicare For All, where you don’t have to get a supplemental program to get all of your basic needs met.
